About the School

Southbourne School is a family-run business founded in 1966. It occupies purpose-built premises situated in the middle of a typical English suburb with only a ten-minute walk away from the sea. The school is open all year and caters for students of all ages, levels and nationalities. It provides an informal, friendly atmosphere in which to study.
Educational Statement
We aim to meet students’ English language needs, whether they are for business, pleasure or further study, in the UK or at home. We believe success is more likely when students are in a positive, safe learning environment, which is what we provide at Southbourne School of English. Studying abroad is also about learning outside the classroom and from the local environment. Cultural lessons are also included, and the social programme and host family are also important parts of the language learning experience.
Arrival at SSE
On arrival at Southbourne School of English students are welcomed by our Academic Principal and given details of lessons, social programme, rules of the school and life in general in England.
Placement Test
All students take a placement test on the first day of their course. From the result of the placement test each student is placed in an English class which is best suited to his/her linguistic ability. Weekly teachers’ meetings enable us to monitor the progress of each student and to decide whether a change of level is necessary.
Teaching Staff
All language teachers at Southbourne School of English are native speakers and are specifically trained in teaching English as a foreign language. They are always available to advise and assist students at all times. Click here to meet the team…
