Visit Bournemouth: never a dull moment

Even when the sky is dull, Bournemouth never is!

Every year, Bournemouth welcomes almost 7 million visitors and more than 50,000 international students because it’s the perfect seaside location for holidays and studying.

There’s always something new to do or see in Bournemouth, which means studying there just gets better and better for international students. There are over 500 events every year, so whenever they come, there will be something fun to do.

Because the numbers of visitors increases every year, Bournemouth itself keeps changing and improving.  The BH2 leisure complex is a recent development, adding 13 excellent restaurants – including Mediterranean, Asian and American – to the already large selection.  When you’ve finished exploring the tastes from around the world, BH2 also has a 10-screen multiplex cinema, showing the latest movie releases, in the heart of the town centre.

Visitors during the summer months can enjoy 10 miles of award winning sandy beaches from Hengistbury Head to Sandbanks, with temperature highs of 30°C (much better than most of the UK!). At the end of August, the Bournemouth Air Festival will give you an exciting look at the UK’s aircraft, with spectacular performances from famous aerobatic teams. On land, there are events from the Royal Marines and much more. Over half a million people from all over the world come to the Air Show each year. Don’t miss the chance to visit Lulworth Cove on the Jurassic Coast, which is a beautiful place for a relaxing stroll with incredible views; you might even find a fossil from the age of the dinosaurs! In 2017 it also became the beautiful location for Bestival, a music festival in early August that has become very popular since it started in 2004.

Even during the winter months there’s still plenty to do. The Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) and the Pavilion Theatre offer a whole host of events, such as music concerts, theatre, ballet, art exhibitions and even an indoor ice skating rink during the Christmas period. In mid-November, Bournemouth transforms into a Christmas Tree Wonderland with an Alpine Market and over 100 sparkling trees.  In 2018 the centrepiece is a 60-foot tall awe-inspiring Wonderland Tree: the same size as the Angel of the North!

For the sports enthusiast, it’s easy to find something adventurous to do, with water sports available such as surfing, sailing, kayaking and water-skiing. There are also many sports facilities close by, including tennis courts, gyms and golf courses.  And, of course, we are proud to be the home of our own premier league football team AFC Bournemouth: up the Cherries!
