My internship at Southbourne School of English

My name is Felix and I’m 21 years old. I am from Germany and I currently do an internship at “Southbourne School of English”.

In Germany I do an apprenticeship as administrative assistant in a council administration. I have to deal with different laws and deal with different enquiries the inhabitants have.

I currently stay with a host family in Bournemouth. Living here is pretty much different to living in Germany. Everything starts with communication. Back in Germany you won’t be asked if you could please do something. In Germany you get advised to do something. But of course we can be friendly as well.
Communication is not the only thing that is different to Germany. The whole landscape in and around Bournemouth/Southbourne reminds me of novels written by famous authors with green shires and hills.
I am from the near of Hamburg and I am only used to flat shires where you have a view of about 15 kilometres and you can just see the next village.

The atmosphere in Bournemouth / Southbourne is very nice. If you just enter a pub the people immediately start a conversation and they just want to know everything about you. You just feel welcome in the moment you arrive.

I really enjoy the nightlife in Bournemouth. There are so many different locations you can spend the most of your money and have a really good time. If you like pubs, go there. If you like going into a pub which turns into a club, just go there. If you want to go into a club which used to be a church (!) just spend your time there. If you just want to relax go to the beach and have a nice time there, with a length of 7 miles you should find a place.

When I heard that I will work in an administration office in a language school I thought: “How should I ever survive this? I’ve never spoken to real English people.”
But when I came into the office and introduced myself to Sonia, because I did not know who the principal is, I immediately felt very welcome. She was just so happy about me being here and then the principal just came over to introduce herself, a very lovely person by the way.
Then Abdi just showed me around, introduced me to the whole team and I felt so comfortable that it was clear for me that I don’t really want to leave and that these three weeks of my stay will pass too fast. And it actually did.
The team spirit is very special in here.
The whole team is just so professional. When I heard the first couple of students speaking in English with me I wouldn’t think that they are from a foreign country and that just mirrors the great work that is done in this school.

I would totally recommend this school to everyone who wants to learn proper English and how to speak in a proper way.
The work that is done inside this building is just awesome!

50 Year Anniversary of the School

Southbourne School of English is proud to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. This is a wonderful milestone to have achieved.

The school has gone from strength to strength and is still run by the Gallina family 50 years on. Over the years we have heavily invested in all areas of the school to make it a great place to study and to keep at the forefront of EFL learning.

We have come a long way from this,

We now have top of the range interactive whiteboards in all of our 23 classrooms. These help our students have a modern and current learning platform that they are familiar with.

Although the look of the school has changed our ethics, vision and goals have remained the same. We are passionate about offering our students a first class education in a fun, caring and welcoming family environment.

With a wide range of courses available for adults, juniors, 50+, examinations, closed group courses and many more, there is sure to be a course to suit your needs.

The location of the school is wonderful and similar to when we first opened in 1966. It is still a lovely residential area. All families are within easy walking distance of the school and the beach is only a short walk away.

With a vision that exceeds many other schools, we try to lead EFL into the future.

Thank you for being a part of our rich history and celebrating how far we have come and being part of what lies ahead.

45th Anniversary

This year Southbourne School of English is celebrating its 45th year of success!

Paul and ItaloAs part of this landmark in the school’s history, we have had a brand new website created. Please have a look around – we hope you will like it!

The school has gone from strength to strength, and we are doing better than ever. Last year we completed a large extension giving us eight new classrooms and allowing us to accommodate larger groups.

We have also had the entire school refurbished, and had our classrooms fitted with state-of-the-art interactive electronic white boards. With all classrooms now able to offer a complete multimedia learning experience, Southbourne School of English is embracing the best that twenty-first century education has to offer.

We could not have done this without the support and friendship of so many over the years, and we’d like to offer our sincere gratitude to those groups and individuals who have visited us time and time again. Your contributions have helped make Southbourne School of English into the brilliantly successful English language school it is today.

Thank you all very much!

With our warmest wishes,

Paul, Italo, and the whole team at Soutbourne School.

Southbourne School of English Grows

School Extension

The year 2010 saw the completion of a huge extension to Southbourne School of English. This has provided the school with eight new classrooms, and now all 17 classrooms in the school have state-of-the-art interactive whiteboards, allowing our teachers to use the latest teaching methods available and provide our students with a more stimulating, interactive, multimedia environment.

The new classrooms have also enabled us to improve our examination facilities, allowing us to hold a larger number of exams at the school, and have given us the ability to cater for a larger number of specially tailored groups.

Finally, and perhaps most excitingly, we have a large, purpose-built cinema room in the extension. With a huge television and surround sound, film nights at the school are not to be missed!
