Travelling to Britain

To help prepare you for your stay in England we try to provide you with as much information as possible.

Guide to Living in Britain

What to Bring

We asked our students what they wished they had brought to England to make the most of their stay. We’ve put this list together to give you some ideas.

Climate and clothing

UK weather is famously changeable! So be prepared.

It can be quite wet and cold in the winter (roughly November to March). So a warm coat, hat, scarf, gloves and an umbrella are a good idea. It is probably cheaper and easier to buy warm winter clothing here, rather than in your home country.

Summers can occasionally be showery and overcast but are mostly pleasant and warm. The days are long and it stays light until late in the evening.

Accessories and little extras

  • A valid passport (with a visa if needed). It’s a good idea to bring a photocopy too.

  • Chargers for electrical equipment, such as your phone or camera. And an adapter for the UK- three prong- 220-240 volts.
  • Unlocked mobile phone (we sell SIM cards at school).
  • Laptop/Smart phone.
  • School Backpack for books and files.
  • Notebook.
  • Pens/pencils.

Clothing suggestions for a 2-week visit

  • Jeans – They’re useful if it’s cold.
  • Smarter tops/shirt/dresses – Bring something nice to wear for our organised evening activities, discos and social cultural theme nights.
  • Non-denim trousers – Jeans aren’t great in the rain. Bring another option which dries out more quickly.
  • Swimming costume
  • Long-sleeved T-shirts – To keep you warm in winter and keep the sun off in summer.
  • Waterproof jacket – A lightweight or fold-up one that doesn’t take up much room. You can put it in your day bag in case of unexpected showers.
  • Vest tops – For layering under the long-sleeved tops in winter and wearing on their own in summer.
  • 1-2 sport outfits – Hooded top, tracksuit bottoms, shorts.
  • Everyday T-shirts
  • Footwear – Trainers, Leather shoes, Flip flops.
  • Fleece/Jumper/Cardigan – Good for colder days or evenings.
  • Shorts – For the hot months of July and August.
  • Cap/Hat for the beach
